"Inter-Government Relations Issues" Interaction Program Concluded
An interaction program on "Inter-Government Relations Issues" was successfully held today (Jun 27, 2025) in Janakpurdham. The event was organized under the joint auspices of the Madhesh Province Chief Minister and Council of Ministers' Office, the PLGSP Program, and the Federalism and Localization Center.
Presiding as the chief guest, Madhesh Province Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh addressed the program, chaired by Chief Secretary Madan Bhujel. Chief Minister Singh emphasized that critics of federalism should recognize its tangible achievements, such as infrastructure development in roads, drinking water, hospitals, schools, and universities. He raised concerns over the federal government’s reduction of grants under various headings despite increasing expenditures. Additionally, he cautioned against conflating dissatisfaction with budget allocations with opposition to federalism itself.
Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal, the special guest, stressed the need for governments at all levels to strengthen federalism through coordination, cooperation, and coexistence, as mandated by the constitution, rather than through mutual criticism. Minister for Forest and Environment Sanjay Kumar Yadav, Minister for Law Rajkumar Lekhi, Chief Advocate Surendra Kumar Mahato, Deputy Speaker Babita Kumari Ishar, CPN (UML) Chief Whip Hari Narayan Mahato, RPP Parliamentary Party Leader Kanchan Bichha, Municipality Association Nepal Madhesh Province President Pradeep Kumar Yadav, National Association Rural Municipality Madhes Province President and Bishnupur Rural Municipality, Sarlahi President Jabhar Lal Yadav, Jesus Dhanusha Chief Rajendra Mandal and other speakers shared their views in the program.
Dr. Khimlal Devkota, President of the Federalism and Localization Center and former MP, presented a working paper, while Prof. Dr. Bhogendra Jha introduced the program's rationale and theme. The event was moderated by Jayakumar Raut (PLGSP), with a program report delivered by Prahlad Lamichhane (FLC).
