Federalism Awareness and Youth Dialouge in Madhesh
“Youth Dialogue on Federalism” Concluded in Janakpurdham
On 4 Jestha 2083 (May 18, 2026), a “Youth Dialogue on Federalism” was organized in Janakpurdham, the capital of Madhesh Province, through the collaboration of the Province and Local Governance Strengthening Programme (PLGSP/UNDP) and the Federalism and Localization Centre (FLC). The event saw notable participation from youths belonging from diverse fields (students, social activists, civil society representatives, and other stakeholders) from all the eight districts of Madhesh Province. Discussions focused on the implementation of federalism, inclusive democracy, intergovernmental relations, the role of youth, social inclusion, and participatory governance.
During different sessions of the program, participants engaged in group work, role plays, open discussions, and in-depth dialogues on topics such as the practical dimensions of the federal governance system, the roles of provincial and local governments, youth participation in policymaking, GEDSI (Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion), inclusion beyond representation, and the distribution of state power.
In the discussions, participants emphasized the need to strengthen an inclusive and accountable governance system that respects the social, linguistic, and cultural diversity of Madhesh Province. They also expressed the view that all levels of the state must take greater responsibility to ensure the meaningful participation of women, Dalits, Muslims, persons with disabilities, and marginalized communities. According to the organizers, similar programs under the “Youth Dialogue on Federalism” series will be organized in other provinces as well.
